Detroit Lakes Invitational 2022

Alliance Taekwondo brought a team of eight competitors to the 2022 Detroit Lakes Tournament. One adult competitor, five jr blackbelts, and two underbelts. The team was led by Mr Eddie Lin and Mr Tanner LaFavor, they were accompanied by Mr Kenyon Meissel, Mr Braxton Standaert, Ms Dyllan Heidt, Ms Reese Spadgenske, Mr Austin Heidt, and Mr Mason Hager.

Alliance took home a total of 25 medals and a Grandchampion trophy. Alliance had a total of 10 first-place finishes, 8 second-place finishes, 6 third-place finishes, and 3 fourth-place finishes.

In the blackbelt forms division Mr Eddie Lin first in his division. For weapons, Mr Eddie Lin also took first. Mr Tanner LaFavor took third in forms and second in weapons. Mr Kenyon Meissel took fourth in forms and third in weapons. Ms Dyllan Heidt took second in forms and forth in weapons. Mr Braxton Standaert took third in forms. Finally, Ms Reese Spadgenske took first in her forms division.

In underbelt forms, 2 juniors competed. In the advanced division, Mr Austin took first in forms. In a separate advanced division, Mr Mason Hager also took first.

The juniors and underbelt breaking were up next. In the junior blackbelt division, Mr Tanner LaFavor took first in his division. In a separate breaking division, Mr Kenyon Meissel took second. Ms Dyllan Heidt finished second while Ms Reese Spadgenske finished third. In the underbelt advanced division, Mr Austin Heidt took second and Mr Mason Hager took fourth.

In the advanced underbelt divisions for sparring, Mr Mason Hager took third. In a separate age division, Mr Austin Heidt took second.

Now moving to the jr blackbelt divisions similarly, Mr Austin’s older sister Ms Dyllan took second in her sparring division as well. Ms Reese Spadgenske took third in the same sparring division as Ms Dyllan. Now moving to the boy’s division, Mr Braxton Standaert took first in his sparring division. In the same division, Mr Kenyon Meissel took second. Mr Tanner LaFavor took first in a clean sweep.

In the jr blackbelt divisions, many of the other competitors and audience members gathered to watch the Alliance fighters. Mr Kristofer made it look easy on his way to first, while Mr Braxton showed some technical improvement and took second; Mr Kenyon battled hard and earned third. In the girls division, Ms Dyllan and Ms Reese ended up fighting for first and second; Ms Dyllan’s precision scoring gave her the edge to win.

 Finally moving to the adult men’s division Mr Eddie Lin crushed his division for first.

When everything was over, Mr Eddie Lin accumulated the most points, therefore he won the adult grand champion trophy.

Alliance would like to thank the Detroit Lakes Martial Arts Academy for hosting the tournament. We would also like to congratulate the entire team on all the hard work, and thank the parents, instructors, and coaches who have supported them.
